electoral dataset
project overview
analyzed how socio-economic and demographic factors across germany’s 16 federal states influence party vote shares in the 2021 federal election. designed and built a custom, state-level analytical dataset by collecting, cleaning, and integrating data from official government sources (bundeswahlleiter, destatis, eurostat), ensuring consistency across economic, demographic, and electoral indicators. applied statistical modeling and visual analytics to uncover structural voting patterns. key findings revealed a pronounced east–west divide, with unemployment, regional identity, and demographic composition emerging as major predictors of political preference. results showed higher afd support in economically strained, less diverse regions; strong green party alignment with urban, highly educated, high-income states; cdu/csu dominance in prosperous, aging regions; and spd strength in areas facing employment challenges
